StopKIG!

Many thanks to all those who have registered as supporters of Stopkig.org, particularly those who have recently added their names.

I am pleased to report that we now have over 8000 registered supporters but we still need more - so please do pass on the link to friends and neighbours and encourage them to register.

We are entering the crucial Public Inquiry stage of the planning process. From the outset it has been AXA’s intention to by-pass local democracy and test the UK Government’s policy of deciding major infrastructure planning developments on a centralised basis.

Stopkig.org is absolutely convinced that the supposed ‘Strategic Rail Freight Interchange’ (SFRI) will, if approved, end up as a ‘Regional Distribution Centre” (RDC) for which local planning approval would normally be required. Hence we believe the KIG application is nothing more than an attempt to gain planning approval to a very nasty and unwanted development, through the back door of a ‘national interest’, which does not in fact exist.

You will see from the text herewith that we are looking for volunteers to attend the Inquiry, which begins on 13th October and we also seek volunteers who are prepared to speak at the Inquiry. I urge you please to come forward to fulfill these roles.

The prospect of 3,000 lorry movements per day and all night rail freight shunting in our historic community is quite appalling and must be stopped.

The public Inquiry is your last chance to influence the Planning Inspector, so please be active in voicing your objections, making your opposition known and if possible by attending the Public Inquiry. I have not dwelled on the revised proposals, which have little impact on the physical development and no impact on its intended use but would encourage you to write to MBC advising your continuing objection so the Planning Inspector is left in no doubt about the strength of local feeling.

You will see from the attached ‘Action Points’ that we are asking you to write two letters; one to Maidstone Borough Council confirming your objections to the revised proposals; the second to The Secretary of State DEFRA, registering your objections to the proposed ‘stopping up’ of bridleways and re-routing of footpaths.

There is a real danger of these public rights of way being lost forever.

Additional detail on the action Stopkig.org would like you to take as well as an overview of the amendments to the plan and a list of potential issues that the public may wish to speak about at the public enquiry can be viewed by clicking below :
