AXA Ploughs on with Controversial Plans
19/10/2007

Maidstone Borough Council has received a Planning Application for the Kent International Gateway development.

Although the volume of paperwork accompanying the application was one of the largest ever received by the council, Maidstone Planning authority has asked for more detail before it can begin determining the application.

Maidstone Council is insisting that details of the height of the proposed warehouses are supplied before it will accept the submission as valid.

Kent International Gateway Ltd is seeking permission to build railway sidings with eight huge warehouses with a total floorspace of 362,000 sq metres, along with a business park with supporting small industrial & office buildings covering a further 11,400 sq metres at a site between the A20 and the M20 at Bearsted, near Maidstone.

The company is seeking outline permission at this stage, but is committed to its access proposals which show two major routes into the site, both from the A20 Ashford Road.

Kent International Gateway is seeking permission to operate the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and predicts it will give employment to 500 office staff, and 3000 in the industrial operation.

Alison Broom, director of Operations at the council, promised that they would embark on a thorough and complete public consultation as soon as the application had been validated, and all details were available to distribute.

Mrs Broom said “Once the application has been validated, we will want to hear from the public, and we will be urging everyone to write or email us with their views”

There will be a limited time to make your objections

We will publish details of who should be contacted as soon as validation is completed by the Borough. We will continue to send updates as more details become available.

We will give a summary, but please go in person to Maidstone Borough Council offices to see the application. It will also be available on the MBC website.

We will advise when the application is available for viewing.

Please put your posters up, replace the faded/worn ones, as the first step in showing our opposition to this development.
